Friday 10 August 2012 – Loch Shieldaig to Upper Loch Torridon

No wind and none forecast, so this was a good day to take a look at some of the Torridon hills.  We motored through the narrows into Upper Loch Torridon and anchored in the first bay, Alligin Shuas. Follow the track on Google Maps. Biked to the bottom of the mountain and then took the circular route up Ben Alligin.  This was a well-trodden path that took a very steep route up the first peak, followed by a steeply undulating ridge, including scrambling over the “horns”.  A number of other people were on the mountain and we all enjoyed clear views in all directions.  Total of bike and walk was 22.8 km.

Follow the track of the bike and walk.

We returned to the boat to find it was still in sunshine, so we took our first swim from the boat for this year.  Cold, but managed 2 laps of the boat and then used the new “solar shower” which worked well.  I now need to refill it, but not from the boat tank as that would be a waste – just need to find a convenient burn.  We were invited to the other boat moored in the bay for a glass of wine and spent a sociable evening.

Tomorrow we could go up Ben Eighe or some other mountain if we can manage to cycle far enough.
