A beautiful day for walking with all the mountain tops completely clear, bright sunshine and light wind. However the wind was coming straight into our bay and illustrated the fact that we had anchored a bit close to the shore. After yesterday’s exertions it seemed a good opportunity to have a sailing day as there was enough wind and it was in a good direction – maybe we could get to Loch Ewe. However after leaving the upper loch on a broad reach the wind changed in the narrows between Loch Shieldaig and Loch Torridon and eventually stayed near North for the rest of the day (as usual!), so we decided that Loch Gairloch would be far enough. Gairloch had a holiday atmosphere with a campsite and caravan park where Pam had stayed in her youth and various boats around both sailing and fishing. We picked up a visitors’ mooring in Loch Shieldaig (a different one in part of Loch Gairloch).
There is nothing on shore here apart from a hotel. We were soon chased back to the boat by the midges. Tomorrow we hope to fill up with water at the pontoon at Flowerdale and move N again.
